The world under our feet is invisible, yet it is a world teeming with billions of microorganisms working together to keep our plants and animals, landscapes and water supplies clean and healthy.

We would love to hear about what your research has revealed about healthy soil.

This competition is free to enter. We have two categories, one for primary students and one for secondary students.

We’ve got prizes for the best entries for both the students and their school (see below).

 

The 2022 competition theme is ‘Healthy Soil’

Entries can be in any digital format. This might mean producing a video, making a magazine, drawing a picture, recording a speech, writing a play, painting a mural, designing a video game, writing a book review, or painting a mural. You just need to be able to send it to us, (or a link to it) in an email or upload it to a website.

 

How to Enter

To enter the competition each school or student must complete and return a registration form to soilweekaustralia@gmail.com

 

Competition timelines

4 September 2022: Registrations close
25 October 2022: Entries need to be submitted
25 November 2022: Winners notified & prizes delivered
1st week in December 2022: Public announcement of winners

 

Primary School competition – open to students in Grades 4, 5 and 6.

For primary schools, the topic is ‘Healthy Soils and our food system’.

For primary students, there will be one winner and one runner up. 

The winning school will receive $1000 and the runner up will receive $500 to be spent on resources to build their student’s understanding of healthy soil and/or healthy food. 

The students of the winning entry and the students of the runner up category will receive a voucher in recognition of their efforts. 

Every school and student who registers will receive one year’s free access to the Soil Learning Centre resources, valued at $300.

Secondary School competition – open to students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10.

For secondary school students, the topic is ‘Healthy Soil, Agriculture and Climate’.

For secondary students, there will be one winning entry. 

The winning student will receive a $500 JB Hi-Fi voucher and the school will receive $1000 to be spent on resources to build students’ understanding of healthy soil, agriculture and climate. 

Every school and student who registers will receive one year’s free access to the Soil Learning Centre resources, valued at $300.
